KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice president Tian Chua, PAS member Tamrin Ghafar and NGO leader Haris Ibrahim were re-arrested for investigation under the Sedition Act.
The Magistrate Court here today issued arrest warrants for the trio and two others – social activist Hishamuddin Rais and student activist Safwan Anang.
Deputy city police chief Datuk Amar Singh, in a statement, said that Tamrin, Haris, Safwan and Tian Chua were arrested in various locations around the Klang Valley last night.
“Hishamuddin has not been arrested yet but is expected to be picked up soon as well. Those who have been arrested will be taken to the Kuala Lumpur courts tomorrow,” he said.
All the four who were arrested, were taken to the Dang Wangi police headquarters to facilitate investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.
Tamrin, Tian Chua and Haris were arrested for the second time in a week after being picked up for the same offence last Thursday.
However, they were later released the following day when the court declined to issue a remand order.
Many of those arrested had all spoken during a forum on May 13 at the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.
Safwan is a classmate of student activist Adam Adli, who was charged at the Kuala Lumpur courts on Thursday for sedition.
Adam, who had also spoken at the forum, was later released on bail.
